Free employment development program to empower youth with retail job training
Ready to Get Yo’ Life? One Voice One Team has partnered with retailu to create the “Get Yo’ Life Career & Life Skills Development Course”. The unique three-part program will empower Canadian youth to get the professional skills and job experience needed to succeed in the real working world. From training to job opportunities; including with retail partner, Ardene Canada.
One of the leading retail training platforms that supports retailers, retailu, has specifically curated a retail course for this free employment program for youth. Together we’re providing the powerful combination of retailu’s course, “How To Ace Your First Retail Job”, alongside our career and life skills development course “Get Yo’ Life”.
Youth employment program changes lives!
Numerous issues plague youth today: such as unemployment, suicide, gang involvement, mental health challenges, and more. At One Voice One Team, we empower, inspire, and facilitate opportunities for youth to move past those issues and be catalysts in creating a ‘better tomorrow’ today. Hence, the creation of our “Get Yo’ Life” course, a career building workshop series to educate young adults “Under 30” with time management, goals setting, communication and life skills.
Empowering youth to see beyond their circumstances is why One Voice One Team exists! The barriers that black youth and other marginalized youth face when trying to find employment is a problem that we now have the answer for with this three-step program. We’ve combined “Get Yo’ Life” with training on how to interview and get any retail job (and keep it), plus an interview with Ardene Canada. When our applicants knock that interview out of the park, they’ll be offered an internship that if managed successfully can lead to ongoing employment.
Ardene Canada jobs lead to careers
“Ardene Canada has come on board as our first retailer to support the “Get Yo’ Life Career & Life Skills Development Course” and together with retailu, youth will learn how to be professional and successful in the retail job market. After completion of the courses, youth will be offered an internship with Ardene Canada and inevitably a job,” explains Orlando Bowen, the founder and Executive Director of One Voice One Team Leadership Organization.
In the last year, through the process of COVID and extreme lockdowns, retail and schools were hit hard. “It is not enough to know about the issues we are facing today. We all need to step up and support local initiatives like this that need us,” says, retailu Founder, April Sabral. “We knew we had to step up and do something. Many first-time job seekers were not able to gain their first retail job. To launch this partnership with Ardene is amazing and we are looking forward to welcoming other retailers who also want to remove systemic barriers for marginalized youth and do their part to dismantle systemic racism.”
Sabral continues, “Supporting One Voice One Team is a natural fit for RetailU. Many retail first-time employees are students, some even grow into managers. One Voice One Team develops their employability and life skills, and what they are doing is incredible and they are making a huge impact not only on the students, but also the retailers who desperately need quality leaders as we navigate this pandemic.”
This is the first time a retail company has offered this kind of opportunity to youth. One Voice One Team is excited to help our youth maximize this shot! To find out more about the ‘Get Yo’ Life Career & Life Skills Development Program’ contact us at info@onevoiceoneteam.org or get in touch here.
